This rate and the IBJA rate
The India Bullion and Jewellers Association publishes reference rates for gold of each purity twice a working day, on ibjarates.com. Jewellers price from them, and they leave out GST and making charges. They are a trade benchmark, not a price you can buy at.
The rate above is different: it is the live price Augmont buys and sells digital gold at, including its margin, so it sits a little away from the IBJA figure. Both start from the same place, the London price converted to rupees with import duty added. How the gold price is calculated walks through each step.
What you pay on top of the rate
Only 3% GST, once, when you buy. There are no making charges on digital gold, and no GST when you sell. If you later turn your grams into a coin, a charge applies to the coin itself. The tax guide covers capital gains when you sell, and the coins guide covers redemption.
Questions people ask
What is the digital gold price today?
The figure at the top of this page: Augmont's live rate for one gram of 24K 999 gold. You pay that rate plus 3% GST when you buy. The page refreshes it every minute, and the rate locks for about five minutes once you start a purchase.
Is this the IBJA gold rate?
No. The India Bullion and Jewellers Association publishes reference rates twice a day on ibjarates.com, and jewellers price from them. This page shows the live rate you can actually buy and sell digital gold at, which includes the dealer's margin, so the two differ.
Why is the sell price lower than the buy price?
Every dealer buys below the price it sells at. That gap is the spread, shown under the table above. It is the main cost of buying and later selling.
Is GST charged when I sell digital gold?
No. The 3% GST is charged once, when you buy. Selling back pays the sell rate to your bank account with no GST.
Will the gold price go up tomorrow?
Nobody can tell you that reliably, and we don't try. The chart shows where the price has been, not where it is going.
Rates come from Augmont, Ticgetz Gold's refiner. Digital gold is not regulated by SEBI or the RBI. This page is general information, not advice, and we don't forecast prices.
